Houthi Landmine Kills One Child, Maims Another Northeast of Sana'a

A child was killed and another seriously injured after a landmine planted by the Houthi militia exploded in the rural district of Nihm, northeast of the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.

According to human rights sources, 15-year-old Adam Ali Al-Qalam was killed in the blast, while his companion, Ali Ali Jazeelan, 13, sustained severe injuries that resulted in the amputation of one of his legs below the knee.

In a statement, Witness Human Rights Organization said the explosion occurred on Friday morning in the Al-Athibi area near Al-Nu'aymat village in the Ayal Ghafeer subdistrict of Nihm District. The two children were reportedly herding sheep for a monthly wage on behalf of local residents when the mine detonated.

The organization explained that Adam Al-Qalam, a resident of Al-Haymah Al-Kharijiyah District, southwest of Sana'a, died instantly after being struck by multiple shrapnel wounds. Meanwhile, Ali Jazeelan remains under medical care and is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Witness Human Rights Organization held the Iran-backed Houthi militia fully and directly responsible for the incident, noting that the group has maintained complete control over Nihm District since January 2020.
