Aden Authorities Seize 3,000 Pregabalin Pills from Drug Traffickers

Security forces in Aden, Yemen's interim capital, announced the apprehension of two individuals involved in drug trafficking on Wednesday. The operation, conducted by the Aden Police Anti-Narcotics Department in collaboration with specialized National Security forces, took place in the Dar Saad district.

The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Aden, Mayas Al-Jaadani, stated that the operation followed meticulous security investigations and surveillance that lasted for an extended period. This culminated in the seizure of a quantity of Pregabalin narcotic pills from the two arrested suspects.

Al-Jaadani elaborated that the confiscated items included approximately 200 strips, totaling 3,000 pills of 300mg concentration. He identified the accused individuals by their initials as M.A.S.B. and M.R.M.K. The security apparatus has completed the necessary legal procedures, including seizure reports and preliminary investigations, in preparation for submitting the case file to the Assistant Prosecutor for Security and Investigation to finalize proceedings and refer it to the competent court.

This operation occurs amidst a concerning increase in drug prevalence across various Yemeni cities in recent years. Security and societal warnings highlight the expansion of smuggling and trafficking networks, which exploit the repercussions of the ongoing conflict that began after the Houthi militia's coup in September 2014. This period has been marked by diminished security oversight and a deterioration of economic and social conditions.

Security officials and experts have noted that the protracted conflict and numerous smuggling routes via land and sea borders have facilitated the increased influx of narcotic substances into the local market. Consequently, security agencies in several governorates have intensified their campaigns to pursue trafficking and distribution networks, which now represent a growing security and health challenge.
