Yemen Mobile Network Outage Hits Shabwa Following Fiber Optic Cable Damage

The Yemen Mobile telecommunications network has experienced a widespread service outage in Shabwa Governorate following the accidental severance of a primary fiber optic cable during local excavation work.

Local sources reported that the disruption was caused by an excavator operating on a water project east of Ataq city, near the Bin Amer station. The machinery struck and severed the main trunk cable, resulting in an immediate loss of connectivity for subscribers throughout the region.

Upon receiving notification of the incident, technical teams and maintenance personnel from the Shabwa Communications Office were dispatched to the site. Engineers are currently assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating the necessary repairs to restore the infrastructure.

While officials expect the network to be fully operational within the coming hours, the incident has prompted renewed calls for better coordination between public service contractors and utility providers. Authorities are urging project managers to consult maps of telecommunications networks prior to excavation to prevent further disruptions to critical infrastructure in the governorate.
