Houthi Militia Continues Two-Year Detention of Tribal Leader in Sanaa
The Iran-backed Houthi militia has reportedly held Sheikh Saleh al-Bahri, a prominent tribal leader from the Atmah district of Dhamar, in a Sanaa detention facility for two consecutive years without legal justification.
Sources close to the family stated that Al-Bahri was apprehended based on unsubstantiated allegations. Despite the duration of his confinement within the militia’s security and intelligence apparatus, authorities have failed to present formal charges or provide a legal basis for his ongoing detention.
The situation has been further exacerbated by the militia’s refusal to allow Al-Bahri’s family members to visit him, raising significant concerns regarding his well-being and the denial of his fundamental rights. The lack of transparency surrounding his case remains a point of contention for local observers.
In response to these developments, a coalition of citizens and academics has issued urgent calls for the militia to release the tribal leader immediately. The advocates are demanding that justice be served, calling for compensation for the damages incurred during his arbitrary detention and the restoration of his legal and human rights.
